Character History: Here
Personality: Headstrong and sure of her martial abilities, Jarael is at the same time extremely loyal to those she cares most about, and who have shown her kindness. Torn away from her family and spending years as a slave have hardened her, and she does not take easily to new acquaintances. Once befriended, however, Jarael allows her more adventurous side to show. Often sarcastic in the face of both humour and trouble, Jarael will not cave at the first sign of hardship. Enduring, she will weather out a storm for as long as she can take. 'Jarael' means 'Protector' in the ancient language of the Crucible - the slave organisation which she once served. She endeavors to live up to her namesake, most recently by vowing to protect the man who rescued her from the Crucible, Camper, when she could no longer endure it.
After spending years as a slave Jarael bested one of her captors and found herself promoted to the same position. She chose to use her new authority to secretly help as many slaves as she could, making their lives there more bearable. When she left she left all those who were still enslaved behind, and so feels some measure of guilt over her departure. Her association with an unknown such as Camper gives her the benefit of being able to keep a low profile, which is how she likes it. Although she would appreciate nothing more than to dismantle the Crucible and free those still enslaved, she recognises that she doesn't have the ability to do so alone, and for the time being prefers to remain in hiding amongst the anonymity of Taris' lower city.
Since she was taken as a slave at a young age, Jarael has no knowledge of where her mother and father are, or any of the others she associated with during the early years of her life. This also adds to her difficulty trusting people, and forming long term attachments (both of a friendly and a romantic nature). Her harsh upbringing has also taught her to look out for herself and not rely too heavily on other people. This often proves to be both a blessing and a curse, molding her into a self-reliant individual who finds it hard to open up, keeping her past a secret from everyone she currently associates with. Her devotion to Camper would later also land her in trouble (along with countless incidents due to her involvement with Zayne and Gryph), highlighting both the lengths to which her loyalty will extend, and the dangers she is willing to place herself in for the people she cares about, sometimes to her detriment.
Jarael's surety in her own physical capabilities is at odds with how confidant she feels about pursuing personal relationships or her own goals, such as bringing an end to the Crucible or finding her family. Lack of confidence has often led her to postpone or abandon goals (at least until others came along who would help her and support her in her endeavors). She can be aggressive when defending others, but in times of peace her softer and more caring side shows through. Jarael essentially possesses many personal barriers to relationships, but all of these can be worked through and broken down with enough time and gestures of friendship.
Powers/Abilities: Jarael does not possess any super human abilities, merely skill with physical combat. Particularly, she is skilled with a shockstaff (a long two-handed weapon able to generate electricity on its end. When hit with this weapon, a person will feel not only pain but the area affected will feel stunned or deadened for a time). In her canon, she has a weak affinity with the Force, but this is not revealed at the canon point in which I am taking her from, and she is not aware of it herself, so I will not be seeking to include it in her abilities at present. Her limitations include all normal human limitations such as exhaustion, vulnerability to extreme weather conditions, and starvation. Her skill in combat may be influenced by her emotional state, which could prove either a benefit or a detriment, depending on the situation.
Possessions: Shockstaff, Clothing (basic tunic, pants, boots, gloves, belts - as seen here), satchel containing credit chips and electronic ID.
Arrival: Via the Ship

Network Sample: [The screen blinks on to reveal Jarael's pale face and distinct blue facial tattoos. Her expression is annoyed, or hesitant, or perhaps a little of both. She elicits a sigh.]
I need help. From anyone. I'm out of provisions, and seem to have become disoriented in these woods. I've successfully fended off... creatures... of some nature, I'm not sure what. But I'm fairly certainly they weren't friendly.
[Turning to the side, whether deliberately done or not, she reveals a few fresh claw marks gracing the side of her neck.]
I can handle myself, but I don't recognise anything here and I don't have a map to get me back to the ship or the City.
[She pauses, sighing, before lowering her voice to finish.]
Does anyone even use this frequency?
Log Sample: She sat in the Last Resort's cockpit, surveying the altered control panels and powered-down engine lights. It had been a long time since she had last needed to pilot anything, and lately it had been nagging at her mind that perhaps she should be seeking to refresh her memory. Potentially quickly. Taris was becoming political, and Jarael wondered whether it was somewhere she and Perero still wanted to be. Both of them had pasts they were hiding from, and the lower city may soon have outlived its usefulness as a place free from the watchful eyes of connected individuals. And the authorities, though Jarael was less worried about them than she was someone from her past life identifying her. Still, their current business dealings brought them a lot of less-than-legal traffic, so avoiding the authorities altogether was generally a good plan.
Camper was nothing short of a genius, but often his alterations and designs made sense only to himself. Flicking her eyes over the controls she felt she mainly understood them, but some new additions struck her as odd and potentially risky. She wasn't certain she was willing to chance an evacuation while the ship lacked relevant instructions, but she supposed it may not even come to that. The gangs of the lower city were becoming more daring and power hungry, but they had managed to avoid picking sides so far. So long as it remained that way, they shouldn't run into trouble prematurely.
Ten minutes later she sighed and stood up, deciding her time could probably be better spent elsewhere, since they weren't about to leave and from what she could gather she could probably still fly the ship well enough to make an atmospheric exit. Perero was occasionally prone to having 'episodes' or 'turns' and she didn't like leaving him alone for too long if she could avoid it. But sometimes she did just need some room to breathe, and she felt more composed having done so. With that, she exited the cockpit and called out his name, winding her way back down through the ship and into their shop front below, intending to discover what he was up to.
